For years rumors have linked the LA Galaxy with Boca Juniors, and those rumors only intensified after former manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto took charge of the club. With the exception of news concerning Argentine striker Dario Benedetto, a player the organization attempted to bring in, most of those rumors have been ignored by us.
This rumor is a bit different, in fact it may have strong legs.
ESPN Argentina are among the Buenos Aires outlets claiming the LA Galaxy are preparing an offer to purchase Cristian Pavon from Boca Juniors. A dynamic winger considered a world-class talent in the not-too-distant past, the Argentine’s form has fallen somewhat after the 2018 World Cup, perhaps enough for LA to acquire Pavon with a reported amount of $12 million plus a 30% sell-on clause that would amount to a cut-rate fee.
Recently there was word a delegation of Boca representatives were heading to Europe to negotiate offers abroad for Pavon with the Galaxy as a second option. However it seems GBS is eager to secure the services of one of his former players right away.
There is only one realistic path GM Dennis te Kloese can take to sign the Argentine: With three Designated Players on the roster, Romain Alessandrini would have to depart or restructure his contract, neither of which will be easy.
We’ll keep you updated on the latest developments.
