With the Gold Cup kicking off on June 16th, the national teams of CONCACAF have submitted their rosters for the upcoming tournament and it appears (for now) a pair of LA Galaxy players will participate. Former Atlanta United manager Gerardo “Tata” Martino has named midfielder Jonathan dos Santos to Mexico’s final 23-man roster.
Uriel Antuna’s situation is still up in the air. The pacy winger who assisted Andres Guardado for El Tri’s third strike as they pummeled Venezuela Wednesday night is currently out of the lineup pending further tests on influential midfielder Edson Alvarez, who suffered a gruesome looking injury during the friendly. If Alvarez is unable to compete, Antuna will take the final roster spot.
Update: Looks like Edson is ok.
Meanwhile, center back Giancarlo Gonzalez made Costa Rica’s final roster while Rolf Feltscher will compete alongside Josef Martinez in the 2019 edition of the Copa America. Sebastian Lletget was expected to fight for a spot on Gregg Berhalter’s 23-man roster but Da Boy has been ruled out due to injury.
With the tournament running from June 16th through July 7th, the Galaxy could be without dos Santos and Gonzalez for up to three matches: Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s group travel to Cincinnati on the 22nd before the Cali Clasico the week after and the annual 4th of July match vs. Toronto FC.
