The LA Galaxy defeated NPSL side Orange County FC in fourth round U.S. Open Cup play Wednesday night at the Dignity Health Sports Park Track and Field Stadium.

The first half was a frustrating affair for Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s group who created a bevy of looks but were unable to find the breakthrough, with Emmanuel Boateng and Favio Alvarez skiing close opportunities over the bar.

Led by former Galaxy defender Paul Caligiuri, Orange County FC managed to grow into the match and Dakota Collins managed to dance past Diego Polenta towards the end of the halftime whistle, but his shot from close distance fortunately went right at Bingham.

The men in the sky blue Dairy Queen kits put up a brave fight, but the Galaxy eventually wore down the fourth division side and in the 55th minute it would be the talented Efrain Alvarez curving a free kick from the left side of the box past a sprawling David Preys to put LA ahead.

Seven minutes later Alvarez would seal the brace thanks to a moment of unselfishness from Favio Alvarez, who broke loose on the breakaway before laying the ball off to the onrushing El Tri youth product for the tap-in.

Late in the match Emil Cuello would score his first professional goal with a low left footed shot to make it 3-0 for LA.
