Could one of Guillermo Barros Schelotto’s attacking weapons be moving on soon? Local journalist Mariano Carabajal reports the LA Galaxy have declined the purchase option of Favio Alvarez, who spent the 2019 MLS season with LA on loan from Argentine club Atletico Tucumán
Carabajal originally reported the attacking midfielder would be heading to LA in the spring on loan. When coupled with Dennis te Kloese’s words during exit interviews which suggested the club may not be able to hold onto Alvarez, there’s a strong possibility the report is accurate.
A childhood friend of Boca Juniors loanee Cristian Pavon, Alvarez contributed three goals and five assists in 18 league appearances this campaign. Like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alvarez almost saved his best for matches vs. LAFC, snagging three assists in two Traficos.

This doesn’t mean the two parties couldn’t re-negotiate a new deal after the fact, but for now it seems Alvarez is being offered to Mexican clubs.
We’ll see what happens.
