LA Galaxy finally fall to LAFC

Out of the 2019 MLS Cup playoffs

All good things come to an end.

The Galaxy fell to LAFC Thursday night at Banc of California Stadium and are now out of the 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Guillermo Barros Schelotto opted for the same starting XI that pulled off the away victory at Minnesota United.

And the Galaxy looked comfortable in the opening ten minutes or so. It appeared LAFC were content with handing LA possession and pouncing on the counter-attack. In the 16th minute, their patience paid off when a Diego Polenta turnover led to an easy finish for Carlos Vela.

Galaxy fan’s heads dropped in the Banc of California Stadium crowd when Vela doubled the lead in the 40th minute. Controversially Brian Rodriguez was offside on the play but the referees elected not to utilize instant replay. The Galaxy responded almost instantly: With the LAFC defense collapsing on Ibrahimovic, the big Swede slipped a through ball for Cristian Pavon and the Argentine beat Tyler Miller.

The second half was back and forth until a blunder from the back line allowed Ibrahimovic to beat Miller once again.

Back and forth, back and forth. Rossi and Diomande had point-blank chances before Rossi managed to beat Giancarlo Gonzalez at the near post and fire past Bingham. Minutes later Diomande put away a close range header and the match appeared to be done, but Rolf Feltscher’s header made it 4-3.

Diomande then embarked on a run right through the middle of the field and scored to seal the match.
