There has been considerable hype surrounding LA Galaxy midfielder Efrain Alvarez since the 15-year old jumped from Los Dos to the first team a few months ago, and with good reason: The kid is talented. A regular with the Mexico U-17s, the dual national possesses the skill and flair all-too-often lacking in American soccer.
Friday night in Tempe, we caught a glimpse of that talent as Alvarez scored his first professional goal for LA Galaxy II in a losing effort vs. Didier Drogba’s Phoenix Rising FC. After accepting a loose ball 25 yards from goal, the dual national quickly lined up a cracker of a shot that wizzed past a helpless Carl Woszczynski before settling into the top corner.
It’s one thing to beat someone across the goalmouth, but Alvarez smashed the shot directly in front of the Rising keeper, he just couldn’t keep up with the ball’s flight pattern.
Well done Efrain!
