The Zlatan hype train came to a screeching halt Sunday night at the StubHub Center as Sporting Kansas City did well to frustrate the LA Galaxy attack en route to a convincing 2-0 road victory.

Sure, LA clanged the goalpost on three occasions and goalkeeper Tim Melia recorded a career-high ten saves, but Peter Vermes’ side had a gameplan and knew how to execute it. That being said, the Galaxy are definitively a work in progress. Romain Alessandrini was clearly rusty in his first appearance back, while Giovani dos Santos did not appear at all and Sebastian Lletget is still working his way back into match fitness. And of course, there’s Zlatan.

The Galaxy struggled to repeat their almost-unprecedented comeback the previous week, reminding everyone that Zlatan won’t paper over their defensive issues or the lack of cohesion. On the latter point, things should be looking up, with most of the key contributors now rounding into some form.
