Were it not for Romain Alessandrini’s hamstring strain, Sunday’s victory over the Timbers would have been the perfect start for the LA Galaxy.
Of course, the coaching staff has plenty to work on. The attack is very much a work in progress, the back four needs fine tuning, et cetera. But Sigi Schmid’s side managed to grind out a home victory vs. a tough Western Conference rival, tangible progress for a club who couldn’t buy a win at the StubHub Center in 2017 and good for a healthy boost in the Week 1 Power Rankings.

The Galaxy answered some questions with a good home win, and remember, those weren’t a common occurrence last year. If Romain Alessandrini has to sit out for a sustained period with the injury he picked up, LA may be looking to prevent deja vu from setting in.
Next up for the blue white and gold is a tricky road test, as the Galaxy travel cross-country to battle NYCFC in the narrow confines of Yankee Stadium, almost certainly without the services of Alessandrini.
