The rivalry between LA Galaxy II and the Colorado Springs Switchbacks is certainly growing. Last season, these two sides split the season series, with each winning on three points on the road. To being 2018, Colorado Springs took the opener by a score of 2-0.

AJ Ajeakwa scored a beauty of a goal with his right foot to open the scoring for the Switchbacks in the 24th minute. Ajeakwa found some space near the start of the box. He let fly found the top corner of the net.

There was nearly an equalizer a few minutes before the end of the opening 45. Emmanuel Appiah sent in a great low cross into the box. A Switchbacks defender misjudged the delivery and the ball hit off the thigh of Frank López. Had López been able to control that ball, it could very well have been 1-1.

Josh Suggs showed off his athletic ability off a set piece opportunity. Fellow defender, Luke Vercollone, chipped a ball over the top into the area to set up Suggs. The 28-year-old rode his bike and nearly scored a sensational goal.

Los Dos were called for a handball and Jordan Butt converted the spot kick to make it 2-0 Colorado Springs 10 minutes after halftime.

Last year, LA Galaxy II were one of the worst teams in terms of offense in the USL. They barely mustered any kind of attack in Colorado Springs in the first game of the season. Is this another long season in the making?
