Bad news for Gio. The LA Galaxy Designated Player will sit out a week or two after suffering a minor hamstring pull in the 25th minute of Sunday’s loss to NYCFC, ruling the El Tri regular out of Mexico’s World Cup friendlies vs. Iceland and Croatia.
The LA Galaxy will be without Giovani dos Santos for at least a week according to head coach Sigi Schmid.
“It’s somewhere in between one and three weeks. We just have to see,” Schmid said. “He wants to get back out there and play. We just have to do the best that we can do in terms of getting him ready. He injured himself in the game at about the 25th minute and tried to play through it.
”It shows his character that he wanted to try to contribute, but we said at halftime that it was better to take him out. It rules him out for Mexico at this stage, but hopefully, we’ll get him back in time for the LAFC game.”
In the meantime, you can probably expect the lineup to resemble what Sigi put out in the second half vs. NYCFC, when a switch to a 4-3-3 formation with Jonathan dos Santos in a more advanced role yielded promising results.
