U.S. Men’s National Team defeat Trinidad & Tobago 2-0

Pulisic scores brace as USA take all three points

As Landon Donovan declared on the broadcast, the legend of Christian Pulisic continues to grow. The 18-year-old Borussia Dortmund star bagged a brace Thursday in Colorado Thursday night as the USA soundly defeated Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 in a must-win CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier Thursday night in Colorado.

The US had a flurry of chances when John Brooks fired a rocket that required goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams to parry wide, then Jorge Villafana smartly picked out Jozy Altidore on the top of the box, but his shot was straight at the keeper. Minutes later Pulisic broke free on a breakaway, however he was closed down enough to force his shot over the bar.

The US had a real scare when Atlanta United FC forward Kenywe Jones beat John Brooks to a early cross and banged his header off the crossbar, but LA escaped without conceding.

After a prolonged spell of pressure, it was only a matter of time before the US would score, and in the 52nd minute, the dam broke: A neat give and go between Darlington Nagbe and Jozy Altidore led to DeAndre Yedlin’s cross meeting Pusilic’s sliding foot and the Yanks were ahead.

Pulisic put the game away in the 62 minute, running onto a brilliant Altidore pass and smashing a near-post shot past Jan-Michael Williams.

Next up: USA vs. Mexico.
