Explaining Jose Mourinho’s strange LA Galaxy comment

Was it just an innocent remark, or does Zlatan have something to do with this?

Manchester United manager José Mourinho had some interesting words for the press, referencing the LA Galaxy when pressed if summer targets such as Antoine Griezmann might be swayed by the influence of more glistening cities.

"If a player wants to move to London, enjoy London -- we don't want you,'' Mourinho said.

"If the first thing you think is where you're going to live, well, think Los Angeles.

"Galaxy would be the first choice and then Vitoria Setubal, go to the beach every day. There are beautiful places to live and to play.

"We want people who are really engaged with the first contact.

"We want people that if I call some guy or if Mr. Woodward calls some player or some agent, we want people who are immediately engaged, immediately dreaming about coming.

It’s reasonable to assume Mourinho’s made the jab because José has LA on the brain. After all, United is coming to Los Angeles this summer, in fact, Mourinho’s club teams have regularly visited the City of Angels for some time now. One day The Special One might end up coaching in LA himself.

Or were his words a bit of reverse psychology from a manager famous for playing mind games? Mourinho knows perfectly well the Galaxy have offered a contract to Zlatan, who is currently negotiating a new deal with Manchester United.

We’ll have to wait to find out.
