Landon Donovan officially announces return to LA Galaxy

Earlier today, the internet exploded with news that Landon Donovan, who retired in 2014 after winning MLS Cup, was planning to come out of retirement and re-join the LA Galaxy for the tail end of the 2016 season.

One by one the dominoes fell as more prominent news sources confirmed the rumor, until the Galaxy finally released this teaser.

This Facebook post from Landon explains the decision, shedding some light on why the Galaxy attacker chose to come back now.

Though the news has sent shock waves across soccer America, in retrospect perhaps we should have seen it coming. Once a Metro interviewed Landon recently, and well, when a professional athlete claims to be retired while sizing up exactly what he needs to do to come back...

Of course, there are still plenty more questions than answers. How fit is Landon? Will he attempt to work his way into the lineup or be happy with a super-sub role? Time will tell. One thing we do know? Donovan will wear No. 26.
