MLS release 2016 Expansion Draft rules

Atlanta United and Minnesota United FC to build their rosters three days after MLS Cup

MLS: LA Galaxy-Giovani Dos Santos Press Conference Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier today the league released the rules for the 2016 Expansion Draft featuring Atlanta United and Minnesota United FC, set to take place here in LA on Tuesday, Dec. 13th.

Here are the basics:
-MLS clubs are allowed to protect 11 players from their rosters
-DPs are not exempt
-Only one player from each team can be selected, with five selections per team
-A coin flip will determine who goes first
-Homegrown Players are protected, so Bradford Jamieson IV, Jack McBean, Raul Mendiola, Oscar Sorto and Jose Villarreal would all be exempt.
-But homegrowns occupying a senior spot on the roster are not exempt, so Gyasi Zardes would be unprotected.

Does anybody stand out as looking vulnerable? Obviously the Galaxy roster is full of depth, and Ariel Lassiter is a promising young talent on a low salary who’s neither on the senior roster nor a Homegrown player.

That being said, we’ll know more when the Galaxy release their list of protected players later in the year.
