Gyasi Zardes is out for 2016

MLS: LA Galaxy at Portland Timbers Troy Wayrynen-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been a horrific 24 hours for Galaxy fans. Nigel de Jong is about to land in Turkey to finalize a transfer to Galatasaray, Jelle Van Damme is out a few weeks with a MCL sprain, and now things have become significantly worse. The LA Galaxy have officially announced that attacker Gyasi Zardes has suffered a broken right foot and will be out of action for the rest of the 2016 MLS season.

The injury occurred in the 49th minute of last week’s match vs. the Whitecaps, when Kendall Waston cleaned out Zardes’ foot with his trailing leg during a slide tackle, sending Zardes into the air before sharply hitting the turf.

This also harms the U.S. National Team, where Zardes is a regular starter under Jurgen Klinsmann. Already out for the September World Cup qualifiers, there is a possibility he could miss the two opening matches of the final round of World Cup Qualifying as well.
