LA Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City underwhelming in scoreless draw

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Throwback Night turned out to be a fun night in the stands and on social media.

The actual game however, was a dud. LA and Sporting Kansas City drew 0-0 Thursday night at the StubHub Center.

With Bruce Arena forced to field a defensive minded lineup at home to overcome the losses of Robbie Keane and Gyasi Zardes as well as Steven Gerrard to a hamstring injury, the game was never destined to be a goalfest. This however, was a dismal offensive display.

The stats tell the story. 63% possession, outshot 15-1, no shots on goal, and not a single corner kick. Despite dominating the ball, a lethargic Galaxy side were completely blunted in attack, unable to connect in the final third and muster any kind of threat the entire match. On the bright side, Brian Rowe was his usual solid reliable self in goal and the Galaxy kept a clean sheet for just the second time this season.

There was brief drama late in stoppage time when a Sporting defender appeared to play the ball with an outstretched band inside the box, but there was no whistle to save LA and the teams shared the points.
