Gyasi Zardes signs new multi-year contract with the LA Galaxy

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Forward Gyasi Zardes has agreed a new contract extension at the LA Galaxy, the club confirmed on Thursday. The new multi-year contract will be paid using Targeted Allocation Money.

Zardes, 24, scored six goals and notched four assists last season. In total, the U.S. international has netted 26 goals and provided 10 assists since signing a Homegrown Player contract ahead of the 2013 season.

Amidst rumored European interest earlier in the year, Zardes' announcement sees the Galaxy add to a busy 2016 off-season that saw Galaxy coach Bruce Arena add 10 new players to his first-team squad.

The news also comes after Dan Gargan and Ignacio Maganto were waived earlier in the week.

Gyasi Zardes is expected to start in the LA Galaxy's MLS season opener against DC United on Sunday.
