The new look LA Galaxy open their 2016 season when they take on Santos Laguna at StubHub Center on Wednesday night.
Bruce Arena's men face a tough task in the CONCACAF Champions League, and while all the momentum and history is with Liga MX sides, the Galaxy remain one of the best bets in puncturing that dominance.
Part of that is because the Galaxy did exceptionally well in the transfer market. The additions of Ashley Cole, Jelle Van Damme, Nigel de Jong, and Dan Kennedy touched what you would imagine manager Bruce Arena saw as the main areas of concern from last season.
The Galaxy obviously have more talent now, not least in Nigel de Jong whose skill-set touches what you would imagine Bruce Arena sees as his tool at digging and disrupting more technical sides, but that is somehow offset by the fact that Santos Laguna area already eight weeks into the Liga MX season.
Finding the right balance this early in the season will be difficult, but the bottom line is that the LA Galaxy are more talented than ever. That will make for a close affair, and in a two-legged tie like this one, not conceding an away goal may be just enough in this game.
