LA Galaxy fall to FC Dallas in comprehensive defeat

Galaxy’s slim Supporters Shield hopes now dead

Any hopes of making a last second run for the Supporters Shield went out the window as a confident FC Dallas side easily dispatched a rudderless Galaxy side 1-0 before a packed house in Frisco Texas.

Steven Gerrard was inserted back into the starting lineup, while Sebastian Lletget was moved to the left wing.

Unfortunately the move did not pay dividends for Bruce Arena, as the Galaxy struggled to contain FC Dallas’ attack while failing to create anything themselves. LA’s best chance came in the first half when Giovani dos Santos released Steven Gerrard deep inside the box, but the Englishman hesitated before shuffling a shot past Chris Seitz that skidded wide of the post.

In the 39th minute, FC Dallas went ahead on a Mauro Diaz corner kick following some sustained pressure, as Walter Zimmerman skated past Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard before guiding a perfect header off the turf and into the corner roof of Brian Rowe’s net.

The second half wasn’t much of an improvement for LA who looked a half second slower than their youthful counterparts, with Rowe making several big stops to keep the Galaxy in the match. Landon Donovan, Alan Gordon and Emmanuel Boateng were subbed in but were not effective as the match quietly died in the Texas air.
