If the LA Galaxy are to keep themselves in the discussion for the Supporters’ Shield, then the five-time MLS Cup champions need a win here as they visit league-leading FC Dallas at Toyota Park.
It is quite simple. The Galaxy are five points off Dallas, and with two games against Oscar Pareja’s side in the next few weeks, the Galaxy need to win both games to have any chance of lifting the Supporters’ Shield.
Of course, first thing is first, the Galaxy are still three points shy of clinching a place in the playoffs after suffering a 4-2 defeat at home to the Seattle Sounders last weekend. Bruce Arena’s men were served a warning, and while nobody is doubting the Galaxy will not make the playoffs, it’s too late in the season to start losing games. Dallas are no slouch, and a win in Texas could go a long way, not just in the battle for the Supporters’ Shield but in helping the Galaxy look as genuine MLS Cup contenders come playoff time.
