Mexican media outlet Medio Tiempo posted an article Thursday suggesting newly acquired LA Galaxy attacker Giovani dos Santos could potentially join Club America on a short-term loan during the FIFA Club World Cup in December.
Club America president Ricardo Pelaez weighed in on the matter, saying "We’ll look at the circumstances and if they allow we could do it, but it’s not in my mind at this moment."
"We haven’t talked about it, I wouldn’t anticipate anything, we have a great squad and I don’t want to disrespect my players saying that we will bring in one player or another. It’s still not a theme that has reached the board of directors level and I believe we have a very good squad to compete."
Frankly, it's difficult to take this report seriously. The Galaxy would have to be eliminated from the MLS Cup playoffs early just for the deal to make sense logistically, and neither the higher-ups at Club America or the LA Galaxy have even been contacted. It's not a rumor so much as an idea.
What's the incentive for LA to loan dos Santos in the first place? The club doesn't need the cash. And does anyone think Bruce is really going to let Gio go back on loan?
However, Palaez was right in noting that bringing dos Santos into the team could potentially create chemistry and locker room issues.
Not to worry, Galaxy fans. I have a sneaking suspicion this move isn;t going to happen.
