Giovani dos Santos has made quite a splash since arriving in Los Angeles. On the field, he's found a way to start contributing immediately, scoring three goals to go along with five assists in his five appearances with the team. Off the field, he's engaging Angelinos and helping keep the traditions of his home country alive in the city where he plies his trade.

This Sunday, September 13th will mark the 69th edition of the East LA Mexican Independence Parade. Serving as the parade's Grand Marshall will be none other than Dos Santos, who will be the latest star to grace the event, which will be televised on ABC7 and Univision starting at 10 a.m. PT.

The parade route will be through, E. Cesar Chávez Blvd. starting at Mednik St. and ending at Gage Ave. The celebration will continue at Belvedere Park (Mednik and First) with music performances, entertainment, attractions, food vendors, merchandise, and interactive displays.

The Comité Mexicano Cívico Patriótico, a non-profit organization devoted to maintaining Mexican traditions, is organizing the parade along with the Mexican Consulate of Los Angeles. Over the years, they've included such names as Ronald Reagan. Oscar de la Hoya, and Placido Domingo as stars of the festivities. Now it will be Gio's turn to headline what is the largest and most unique celebration of its kind in America.

Dos Santos is one of Mexico's most recognizable and accomplished footballers, having earned FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League, and CONCACAF Gold Cup experience while playing for some of the world's biggest clubs since leaving Liga MX side Monterrey in 2005.
