Grant Wahl: "Feel safe saying" Gerrard going to LA Galaxy

The LA Times is also reporting a deal could happen soon

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Yesterday when word first leaked of Steven Gerrard leaving his boyhood club, rumors of Gerrard to LA seemed far-fetched. Then as the day went on, the rumor gained traction and credibility.

This morning in England, Gerrard formally announced he was leaving Liverpool Football Club at the end of the season.

Then Grant Wahl of S.I. sent out a tweet that has the American soccer community buzzing.

Tellingly, the LA Times is also reporting a deal could be near.

Obviously it would be exciting for the Galaxy to acquire the 34-year-old Liverpool legend with over 114 England National Team caps to his name. The main worry for LA fans: What happens to the Juninho/Sarvas combo?

"They understand the game the same way, they move similarly and they have almost a sixth sense between them where they know where to be and how to get the other one out of trouble when needed" said Donovan through a team spokesman.

"For us, they're been the glue that's held us together all year, and they don't get a lot of credit, but without them we wouldn't be where we are."- Landon Donovan on Juninho and Marcelo Sarvas
