Landon Donovan is working on his fourteenth straight MLS All Star Game, which is enough time to see the game change greatly. His first All-Star Game was held at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, was West vs. East, and ended in a 6-6 draw. Donovan scored four times for the West; in the 3', the 7', the 19', and the 90+2'. He told the Oregonian about how he's come to appreciate the experience.
"I think this year I'm realizing more than ever how important this is," said Donovan. "There's tangible energy around this place and that's really cool. We haven't always had that. Last year was the same in Kansas City... Now this is a game that guys really enjoy coming to. We enjoy being a part of. When you have the opportunity to promote our game and our league, we want to do it."
Bradford Jamieson IV played in the Homegrown Game last night, and while Zardes was around in Portland he did not play. Despite Donovan practicing and talking with the media, he's not expected to play much in the match against Bayern Munich.
