The LA Galaxy have announced the signing of fullback Dan Gargan, who will be available for today's 2014 seaon opening match against Real Salt Lake. As Josie pointed out when Greg Cochrane was traded, the Galaxy needed to make a similar signing.
Gargan impressed as a trialist with the club during the preseason. The MLS veteran has played 131 matches (102 starts) during his career with the Colorado Rapids, Toronto FC, Chicago Fire and San Jose Earthquakes. There was also an odd stint when Gargan retired from Chivas USA in 2008 before playing a match with the other L.A. MLS side.
Gargan has scored two goals and added nine assists to his points total in MLS. With only nine shots on goal during his career, don't expect Gargan to chip in on the scoreboard. However, Gargan was counted on as a regular starter by San Jose in 2012 and Toronto in 2010.
