LA Galaxy waive defender Bryan Gaul

Steven Bisig-US PRESSWIRE

The LA Galaxy announced this afternoon that they have waived 2012 Supplemental Draft pick Bryan Gaul. LA used Gaul as a defender his entire time here, making 14 appearances and seven starts in 2012. Mostly used in relief of Todd Dunivant, he was loaned out in 2013 as Greg Cochrane proved capable as Dunivant's backup.

Gaul was actually listed as a forward while at Bradley, scoring 12 goals in his best year (2010, when he was named to the NCSAA all-midwest-region first team for the first time). He was converted immediately, taken more for his physical presence then a mastering of the position.

Now with the Galaxy keeping James Riley and Greg Cochrane already established above him on the depth chart, Gaul became expendable. It's harsh that he was released so late in the preseason, when there's less time to trial somewhere else. Sometimes that's just how these things go.

Bryan Gaul spent time with two NASL sides last season, so perhaps he'll try and continue his career there.
