Marcelo Sarvas' impact not enough in loss to Rapids

The LA Galaxy (without their stars) took on the Colorado Rapids and despite an active match for Marcelo Sarvas, a late goal by former Galaxy player Eddie Buddle was the difference in the match.

The LA Galaxy were missing their biggest stars on Saturday due to international duty and came up short in their match against the Colorado Rapids. Galaxy manager Bruce Arena called the situation, which occurred due to the MLS schedule, "ridiculous."

Marcelo Sarvas was an active presence on the pitch for the Galaxy and led the team in Match Impact Rating. Sarvas took three shots (two on target, one off the crossbar), committed two fouls and drew four fouls for a MIR for 40.5. Jack McBean, making his first start since his clavicle injury, took four shots with two on target. McBean also drew two fouls in 67 minutes of action for a 28.2 MIR.

Rookie defender Kofi Opare had a good showing in his first appearance of the season. In addition to his defensive effort, Opare had one shot, committed one foul and drew two fouls for a MIR of 19.5. Jose Villarreal and Todd Dunivant had the other MIRs (albeit ineffective ones) worth mentioning in the match. Villarreal put two of his three shots on target, committed and drew one foul and was caught offside to finish with a MIR of 10.5. Dunivant took one shot and suffered one foul for a MIR of 10.

Overall, it was a highly ineffective offensive match for the Galaxy and the potential draw was spoiled by former Galaxy forward Edson Buddle's long range blast in the 75th minute. The goal was his third in his last three appearances in just over 120 minutes of play.
