From their last time out, the LA Galaxy lost starters Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane, Omar Gonzalez, and Jaime Penedo to international duty. In the past Bruce Arena has shuffled starters in order to get the best possible B-squad lineup, but tonight it appears Arena has opted for straight substitutions.
Brian Rowe slots in for Jaime Penedo, with Carlo Cudicini not even listed as a substitute. He has gone from starting goalkeeper on the defending champions, to persona non grata. Brian Perk, who is still listed as dealing with concussion symptoms, backs up Rowe at goal.
On the backline, Kofi Opare slots in for Omar Gonzalez. Tommy Meyer showed well last year but has been slow returning from injury; and Opare showed well in CONCACAF Champions League. The midfield stays the same, with Zardes staying a winger.
That means the forward positions will be handled by Jack McBean and Jose Villarreal. McBean has been in and out since his injury in Sandy, Utah. It'll be interesting to see if Juninho slotting behind the young forwards can guide them toward a goal or two.
