Giovani dos Santos signed with Villarreal today, as was reported over the weekend, ending the LA Galaxy's hopes of bringing the Mexican national team player to MLS. Grant Wahl tweeted out this confirming yet again that LA's offer was real:
Hearing that LA's big $ offer to Giovani Dos Santos was very real--and that Chepo and Mexican FA were among those counseling against move.

It's discouraging to hear that dos Santos was counseled against moving to MLS by the Mexican FA, but it highlights the different ways US soccer and the Mexican FA see each other. The US national team has a handful of talent playing in Liga MX, and MLS academies lose prospects to Mexico with some frequency. However, MLS is not seen in the same light.
It also shows that the Galaxy are serious about filling that third DP slot, and that they're not limiting their targets to older players with few suitors. The question now becomes if the Galaxy continue to pursue targets for the summer transfer window, or if they hold off until they find the right DP who can be with the club for multiple years.
