The Kansas City Star has been doing extensive coverage of the MLS All Star Game. It's really great to see a city go so all in on MLS. This is a Kansas City franchise that was once on the brink, trying to find a permanent home and considering relocation to get it. Now they have that home and they're throwing a grand event to celebrate it.
- They've got an interview with Landon Donovan, as he talks about being impressed with Kansas City and the excitement of playing in his 13th MLS All-Star Game. They call him the greatest player in United States soccer history, and certainly in his interviews this week he's talked about the bond forged between some of the All-Stars during the Gold Cup that will carry over into the All-Star Game.
- Michael Bradley's legacy is also a through line in this All-Star Game, with most players naming him as the player they're most excited to play against. The first American to play for Roma, Bradley grew up playing soccer with Mike Magee and has had extensive time on the national team with Donovan. So there should be plenty of smiles exchanged as well as tackles.
- Matt Besler gets to play hometown hero, though Sporting Kansas City is well represented from Besler to Collin to Zusi. Collin got to debut his fashion line with a catwalk fashion show Tuesday night in the Power and Light district before the Silversun PIckups concert.
- Don Garber's been on hand for all the festivities, and as always he's asked about MLS' expansion plans. While some would argue that MLS should work on being one owner per team, before moving past the 20 team mark, Garber is meeting with several potential ownership groups this week including one from Orland City FC.
