Evening Star: Robbie Keane Hat Trick Hero for Ireland

Robbie Keane scored three goals for Ireland, Omar Gonzalez prepares to kick things off with the United States, and much more.

  • Robbie Keane notched a hat trick for the Ireland squad today in their 3-0 drubbing of the Faroe Islands. The victory over the group doormat puts Ireland third place in Group C. They're even with Austria on points, but Austria has the goal differential. Sweden takes on the Faroe Islands on the 11th, and are currently level with Ireland on goal differential.
  • The United States are about to take on Jamaica at The Office tonight. The match will be broadcast on beIN Sport, and for some perspectives here's the LA Times and the New York Times. Omar Gonzalez should start together with Matt Beisler again.
  • The San Jose Earthquakes fired their coach today. So that's fun.
  • David Beckham remains super linked to MLS expansion into Florida. Some folk seem to think MLS could do a double expansion in 2016 with both Miami and Orlando. There will certainly be a redrawing of conferences with New York City FC in 2015, and two more east coast teams could cause even further shifting.
