Four Star Daily: LA Galaxy academy win 5-0, take division

The LA Galaxy academy won 5-0, the Robbie Keane captained Ireland defeated Georgia 4-0, Omar Gonzalez started as the United States defeated Germany, but the Galaxy senior squad wasn't so lucky.

  • While the LA Galaxy senior squad was being defeated 5-0 on the road at New England, the Galaxy academy U-18 squad beat Real So Cal 5-0 to take their division ahead of the US Soccer Development Academy playoffs. Justin Dhillon, ranked no. 23 in the IMG Academy 150 and a top five forward, notched a brace. LA also got goals from Lucas de Silva, Sebastian Velasquez, and Jaime Villarreal. The Academy Playoffs will take place June 24-28 in FC Dallas Park. The Galaxy U-16 squad did not make the playoffs.
  • Robbie Keane wasn't with the Galaxy yesterday, as he was off with Ireland who defeated Georgia 4-0 in a warm up for their upcoming World Cup Qualifier. It was Keane's 125th cap, which is a record for the Irish national team, and he managed a brace to boot. Giovanni Trapattoni, the Irish manager, told press that Keane has been rejuvenated by his move to LA Galaxy.
  • While Keane had Georgia on his mind, Omar Gonzalez was off defeating ze Germans. The New York Times rightly reports that Jamaica is a smaller fish, but if the US don't fry them then the victory over ze Germans meant nothing. Even if they do carry this victory at RFK Stadium into Jamaica, the friendly is meaningless. It sure was fun though.
  • The Galaxy senior squad, yeah they didn't have much fun Sunday. If you need the AP recap on LA Times letterhead, go ahead. The Boston Globe wrote that the Revs were in cruise control against the Galaxy.
