This news broke this morning that once again the LA Galaxy will be playing a summer friendly against Real Madrid. In 2010, the match was contested at the Rose Bowl; 2011 at The Coliseum; this year the match will be held at The Home Depot Center on Thursday August 2nd. The match will be a part of the World Football Challenge.

This is the second summer friendly for the Galaxy, who are also slated to host Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, July 24th. The Tottenham match is scheduled three days after the Galaxy face Chivas USA, and four days before the Galaxy head to Dallas. Four days after that, Real Madrid, then three days later it's a trip up to Seattle. A bit of an impacted schedule.

"We are excited to give our fans a chance to see the Galaxy take on one of the best clubs in the world in Real Madrid," said Galaxy COO, Chris McGowan. "This will be a tremendous event for Southern California soccer fans, especially with the opportunity to see this game in such an intimate setting as The Home Depot Center. It will truly be one of the must-see sporting events of the year."

The Galaxy first faced Real Madrid in 2005, when David Beckham was with the team and Madrid won 2-0 in front of a sellout crowd. In 2010, the Galaxy were up 2-0 before losing to Madrid 3-2. Last year at the Coliseum, the Galaxy lost 4-1.

Real Madrid are champions of La Liga this year. They made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League, before losing to Bayern Munich.
