While the LA Galaxy may be struggling on the pitch, they keep continually getting affirmation that their Academy system is working. Yesterday, it was wunderkind Raul Mendiola and Jose Villarreal mixing it up with the Reserve Team squad. Now word has come down that Tab Ramos has picked two players in the Galaxy system for his U-20 squad. Ramos will be holding a 24 player camp for a week in Portland, Ore starting April 9th.
Jack McBean is one of four players with MLS contracts named to the U-20 squad. Ramos also selected a player from the LA Galaxy academy, Jeffery Payeras, to join the squad, one of five MLS academy players chosen.
Payeras is an 18 year old midfielder and defender from Hawthorne, CA on the U-18 squad. Last year, he along with Villarreal and Javan Torre suited up in Galaxy kits last year taking on the Portland Timbers in a reserve league match, then members of the powerful South Bay Force youth soccer club. Villarreal impressed Bruce Arena enough to earn a Galaxy contract, it's possible Payeras might not be that far off.
The U-20's will face the University of Portland Pilots on April 12th, and a second match on April 15th against an opponent yet to be named.
