Jose Villarreal has been named to the United States U-20 roster for the upcoming Marbella Cup to be held in Spain later this month. Villarreal signed to the Galaxy with a Homegrown Player contract in December, and will join up with the other 19 players following the LA Galaxy's match against Real Salt Lake on Saturday. He will then rejoin his teammates ahead of their road match against San Jose on October 21st.
He won't be the only player away from the Galaxy during that period, as next weekend there will be a break for another FIFA weekend. Landon Donovan will likely join the US senior squad for their away match against Antigua and Barbuda on October 12th and home against Guatemala on October 16th. The US can eliminate Antigua and Barbuda with a victory or a draw.
Robbie Keane is another player likely to get called away, with Ireland having matches against Germany and the Faroe Islands respectively. Dan Keat was also called up in the last window, so he could be gone as well.
Villarreal has appeared in 11 matches for the Galaxy this year across all competitions and has two goals and an assist thus far. With the US he will play three matches in Spain: against Canada on the 10th, Scotland on the 12th, and Azerbaijan on the 16th.
