LA Galaxy September Review: Strong Month Gets Galaxy In Playoffs

The Galaxy in September looked like the 2011 LA Galaxy keeping two clean sheets on their way to a 3-0-1 month. The high performance month shouldn't be too much of a surprise, given that the Galaxy only faced one opponent with playoff aspirations and only one match on the road.

The Galaxy in September looked like the 2011 LA Galaxy keeping two clean sheets on their way to a 3-0-1 month. The high performance month shouldn't be too much of a surprise, given that the Galaxy only faced one opponent with playoff aspirations and only one match on the road.

The Galaxy took 10 points out of a possible 12 in September, for their most efficient month of the year. The Galaxy have had months this season where they earned more points, but only leaving two points on the table is their best points earned percentage of the year.

Surprisingly the Galaxy did this without David Beckham for most of the month, though the addition of Christian Wilhelmsson did well to soften the impact of that loss. Landon Donovan also missed one match in September recovering from an injury he picked up in Estadio Azteca in mid-August.

September Golden Boot: Juninho and Robbie Keane tied for the Galaxy goal lead in September with three goals each. Both had braces against Toronto FC; Juninho had a goal against Vancouver while Keane had a goal against Colorado. Three other players had one goal.

September Impact Player: With his goal last night against Colorado, Marcelo Sarvas secured his place as the Galaxy's Impact Player of the month with an average of 60.98. Robbie Keane finished close behind with an average of 55.41, but a poor showing last night brought his average down.

September Record: 3-0-1

9 goals for (2.25 per match)

3 goals against (0.75 per match)

+6 goal differential
