Landon Donovan Will Not Travel With US To Belgium

Adam Serrano broke the news this afternoon, Landon Donovan will stay in Los Angeles and not go on with the US Men's National soccer team to Belgium. Instead Landon will join the Los Angeles Galaxy in Kansas City for that MLS match, and then prepare with the team for their Champions League tilt Sept. 13th in Morelia, Mexico.

The arrangement was made prior to the roster being announced, and isn't all that shocking. Clint Dempsey isn't joining the US team in Carson, but will be available in Belgium. This despite the EPL taking the weekend off for international tilts.

The EPL season is just kicking off, but MLS and CONCACAF Champions league are in full swing. Landon Donovan's spot on the USMNT roster is secure, and it's likely he won't get too many minutes on Friday. Much like the US friendly against Chile last year in Carson, this is more about seeing some of the younger players.

This is good news for the Galaxy, who will be without Robbie Keane and Chad Barrett Chris Birchall in Kansas City. Both players are set to return to the Galaxy before the September 9th match against Colorado Rapids at the Home Depot Center.
