The Los Angeles Galaxy took a big step forward this weekend, putting six points between themselves and FC Dallas. Dallas is still in second place, and still has a game in hand. Not only are the Galaxy still in first, but they're hot again. They've got the best record in MLS over the last five games, going 4-1-0.
One point behind Dallas, but arguably the bigger threat, the Seattle Sounders kept pace with the Galaxy on the road, scoring two goals after the 90th minute to win the match. Mauro Rosales scored one and set up the other, ending Sporting Kansas City's unbeaten streak.
Real Salt Lake still have four games in hand, and they're starting to bounce back, beating NY 3-0 to break their two game losing skid.Kyle Beckerman, Alvaro Saborio scored along with Luis Gil. Colorado kept their one point lead over RSL intact with a 2-0 win over Columbus.
The Galaxy have completed their season series' with Dallas and Seattle. The Galaxy still are yet to host Salt Lake and Colorado.
Things look favorable for the blue and gold. RSL would tie the Galaxy at the end of the year if both teams won all their games from here out. That of course is an impossibility as well as an improbability, but it illustrates that while they are currently in "fifth", Salt Lake are the biggest competition for the Supporter's Shield.
