You might as well just get sick of the Seattle Sounders now because if you're not yet, you will be by July 12. The Los Angeles Galaxy were already scheduled to play the Sounders on Monday in a MLS match that will get plenty of hype. It's the Fourth of July and the Home Depot Center will be full. The match will be on ESPN2 for a national TV audience to see and Landon Donovan will be making his Galaxy return after playing in the Gold Cup. Also, the Sounders are streaking, creeping up on the Galaxy in the Western Conference and sitting just four points back.
All of that alone is probably enough to carry a storyline, but there's even more to it now. Just eight days later the two teams will play again after being drawn against each other in the U.S. Open Cup. The Galaxy took down the LA Blues last night and the Sounders disposed of Kitsap Pumas, setting up the two teams for a second clash in just over a week. Seattle are back-to-back USOC champions, while LA hasn't won the trophy since 2005.
The USOC match won't be at Qwest/Century Link/Some Sort of Cable Wire Field though. The Sounders will host the match at Starfire Sports Complex, which holds just under 5,000 people. The Galaxy won't get away from the turf though. Starfire has turf too. Stupid rain.
Also thrown in that eight day span of two matches is a Reserve League match on the fifth so technically it's three matches between the two clubs. Sick of the Sounders yet? You will be.
