Omar Gonzalez may not have gotten a call-up to the men's national team, but he has been named as one of three finalists for MLS Defender of the Year. The award winner will be announced on November 9th. Galaxy fans should be familiar with his competition for the award, Nat Borchers and Jamison Olave. Both Olave and Borchers were cleared to play last night, but Borchers did not make it in the match.
Bruce Arena finds himself as one of the three finalists for coach of the year. It's not the most inventive list, as it's the Supporters' Shield winner, the Shield runner up, and the East regular season winner. Peter Vermes did a great job with significant challenges, his team didn't have a home for their first ten games. Bruce Arena and Sigi Schmid are the two winningest coaches in MLS post-season history, with 41 wins between them.
David Beckham did not end up an MVP finalist, Brad Davis, Dwayne DeRosario, and Brek Shea have that honor. Beckham did end up a finalist for Comeback Player of the Year. His competition in the category are feel good story of the preseason Charlie Davies, and Dominic Oduro who scored 12 goals for the Fire this year after scoring just six in his two years at Houston.
