The United States is supposed to announce a preliminary thirty man roster on Monday, which will be whittled down to a twenty-three man roster during warm-up friendlies in the month of May. Predictions are coming as to what the thirty manand the twenty-three man roster will end up looking like, and from a Galaxy perspective the key point is that Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez are essentially locks for the World Cup.
Donovan is one of only eight players who were involved in the last World Cup who are projected to be involved in the upcoming tournament. The camp begins gathering in seven days on May 14th, with the 30-man preliminary roster due to FIFA by May 13th. The first friendly takes place on May 27th, against Azerbaijan at Candlestick Park.
Sunday's fixture against the Portland Timbers is the last Galaxy match before the USMNT camp convenes in Palo Alto. When it was assumed that Klinsmann wouldn't call all full roster into the May camp the circumstances were different, but depending on how things are handled it's now assumed that the Galaxy will be without Gonzalez and Donovan starting this week until after the World Cup is over.
