Landon Donovan and the United States take on Cuba in Group C play at Rio Tinto Stadium in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Saturday at 3:30 Eastern on FOX and Univision. The U.S. Men's National Team and Donovan are quite familiar with the Cuban squad and the USA has enjoyed a 7-1-1 record against Cuba since 1947. Donovan will be looking to extend his all-time point lead for the U.S.
Donovan has scored seven goals and had one assist against Cuba in four matches. Back during the 2003 edition of the Gold Cup, Donovan struck four times in a 5-0 victory over Cuba at Gillette Stadium. Donovan was tied with Costa Rica's Walter Centeno for the goal lead in that tournament. Donovan scored a brace against the Cubans in the 2005 Gold Cup in a 4-1 victory at Qwest Field. Donovan and DaMarcus Beasley both had three goals in that tournament but Beasley won Golden Boot. Donovan's most recent goal against Cuba came in 2008 in a 2010 World Cup qualifier at RFK Stadium. Donovan also had an assist in that 6-1 victory.
Overall, the U.S. has outscored Cuba 28-10 all-time and is 4-0-0 against the Cubans in the Gold Cup with three shutout victories. A win on Saturday should wrap up a quarterfinal berth for Donovan and the United States.
