LA Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez was named to Jurgen Klinsmann's 24 man roster for the United States World Cup Qualifier against Honduras on Wednesday. As it is an away match, it will be broadcast on beIN Sport at 1:00 PST. The team is training in Miami today before leaving for Honduras later in the afternoon.
"We want to have a sense of urgency right from the start of the Final Round," said Klinsmann. "We have a lot of respect for Honduras, but our message to the team is that we are going there to get three points. One thing we learned from the Semifinal Round is that you have to bring the right mentality to play in the tough games on the road, and I'm confident we are ready to do that."
For Galaxy player Hercules Gomez is also on the roster, as a general FIFA data allows Klinsmann to call up players in Europe and Mexico. The roster is still heavier on MLS players that has been the norm, with Klinsmann living up to his promise that seven players from the January camp could make the roster for the Qualifier.
Chris Wondolowski, MLS' leading scorer the last three years, did not make the roster after a poor performance in the friendly against Canada. Brad Davis, MLS' best passing threat over the last three years, did make the roster for the first time since 2010.
