The LA Galaxy scrimmaged for the fourth time this preseason, this time against UCLA. Several players stood out including youngsters Charlie Rugg and Jack McBean.
The biggest story to come out of this afternoon's scrimmage with UCLA is the last name of one of the two mystery trialists currently in Galaxy camp. It was given by the official Galaxy twitter account as Ferreira, lined up as a defender. Whittling that down is actually quite difficult, as Ferreira is a common last name in South America, so much that many Ferreiras are better known by one name nicknames like Lucio at Sao Paulo FC (formerly of Bayern Munich and Inter Milan).
Carlo Cudicini watched from the sidelines, as did Colin Clark, Jose Villarreal is off with the US U-20 team, and Robbie Keane has been back in New York representing the LA Galaxy at MLS meetings. All of the Fantastic Four back four started, though Franklin was up at midfielder with Meyer playing center back. Charlie Rugg made a notable appearance, as he shakes off his groin injury.
Since the depth chart I'm keeping is unofficial and will be in flux all offseason, I'd look at this grouping and bump Michael Stephens as the #3 outside midfielder behind the Ghost of Landon Donovan and Colin Clark. Charlie Rugg as the #4 forward behind Keane, Magee, and McBean will be my next change, removing the Ghost of Landon Donovan from the forward spot. That is likely temporary, we'll have to see what happens when Villarreal gets back. Remember this is more of a "who's hot" list, and Villarreal hasn't been with the team long enough to have his spot locked in.(link)
