The LA Galaxy have won the 2013 MLS Team Fair Play Award, the first time in franchise history that they've won this award based on disciplinary action over the entire season and a subjective sense of sportsmanship.
LA committed 386 fouls in 2013, the third fewest in MLS; only the Houston Dynamo and Montreal Impact faired better. It was the team's card total that really stood out, last in yellow cards (36) and only one red card. The Houston Dynamo and Vancouver Whitecaps are were the other finalists. The Impact finished last in fouls, but had greater than sixty yellow cards.
In other awards news, Gyasi Zardes was not a finalist for the MLS Rookie of the Year Award, but it was revealed today that he finished fourth in the voting for the award. He received a greater percentage of club votes than DeAnre Yedlin and was competitive on player votes, but lagged well behind on media votes. The Galaxy haven't had a Rookie of the Year winner since Omar Gonzalez and Sean Franklin won it on consecutive years.
Later today MLS will announce the players available for the Waiver Draft to be held an hour later. Waived players can negotiate a new deal if they go unselected in the draft.
