LA Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez has been withdrawn from the United States roster for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers. When Omar Gonzalez was taken out of the match against Chivas at halftime it was called precautionary over a left hip strain. Omar Gonzalez told reporters after the match that the adductor issue is one he'd been dealing with and that he was going to Kansas City no matter what.
Instead Gonzalez will remain in LA and get treatment while Michael Orozco has been added to the roster in his place.
The question now is if further evaluation revealed something more serious. Landon Donovan after the match against Chivas spoke about wanting to participate in the Galaxy match against Montreal. These current World Cup Qualifiers, with the US already qualified for the World Cup, have MLS coaches in the playoff hunt in a bit of a bind.
As has also been said, however, is that there are only so many FIFA dates and the national team has no choice but to try and get a full squad together and build cohesion ahead of the upcoming World Cup. Certainly any decision Gonzalez made wasn't done lightly.
We'll have to see how this story plays out in the upcoming week.
