The LA Galaxy reserve team defeated the Chivas USA reserve team 1-0 on a Jack McBean goal. McBean tapped in a rebound, after academy star Raul Mendiola forced a save from Tim Melia.
However, results aren't the story in a reserve match; it's more about rehabbing starting and up and coming prospects. The Galaxy went with the following lineup: Perk; Dunivant, Meyer, Boyens, Jordan; Stephens, Walker, Garcia, Jimenez; Magee, Villarreal. On the bench: Rowe, Keat, Buddle, McBean, Sorto, Mendiola, Velasquez. Velasquez, Mendiola, and Sorta are all academy players, with Mendiola the one getting international attention.
The most encouraging sign from the starting lineup is Todd Dunivant getting the start and going the full 90. Edson Buddle is listed as an available sub, but was withheld from the match as a precaution due to swelling. Expect Dunivant back on Sunday, but don't expect Buddle back anytime soon.
Jose Villarreal continues to shoot rockets, that kid has a bright future. Expect him to factor in a senior squad match again by the end of the year, as he continues on as super sub.
