The future?

Stay connected for news and updates

I was watching the Galaxy dismantle the Sounders last week, Donovan, Keane, Wilhelmsson, Beckham, and Franklin just obliterated a very strong defensive team and I was euphoric. However, a thought did cross my mind. Three of those players I listed that were so amazing in the last game and have been the reason for LA's rise to prominence, might not be long for LA. Beckham can still play, but he's 37. Donovan has said he could retire and there's always the threat he could make a permanent move to Everton. Keane looks like the most likely to be around for a while, but his contract is up in a year I believe and you never know, Europe could come knocking.

That's all 3 DP's who could be gone in the very near future, so who could they get to replace them or can they replace them? I would assume we would hear more of the usual suspects, Ronaldhino, Lampard, Drogba, and probably a few others. Personally, I'd like to see them use their DP spots to reward some of the players they have now. I mean, is anyone going to say Omar Gonzalez doesn't deserve DP money? Or how about Juninho? If you ask me those 2 players have been way more important to LA's success than the DP's. That may sound crazy, but it really isn't, particularly when it comes to Gonzalez.

The future isn't really about DP's though, because LA will be able to get DP's. The future really depends on the 2 youngest players on the roster, McBean and Villarreal. I was one of the 4 people who watched LA play Isidro Metapan in the CCL, and McBean physically dominated the game on the road in central America, pretty impressive for a 17 year old. He had 2 goals and on the 3rd for the galaxy he made a run after he had just made another that opened up acres of space so Michael Stephens could get an easy tap in late in the game. It showed not only ability but mental toughness and hustle and made me believe he could be a very good player on the international level. Villarreal is very gifted, great technical ability and skill. He has hown flashes of brilliance and you have to believe as he continues to develop his skill he could be a star.

Just my thoughts. I think the future is bright for LA even though it looks uncertain. They are by far the richest and most well known team in MLS and they have smart people running the organization.

First things first though, beat the Flounders.
