David Beckham Returns To Galaxy, New Kit Unveiled

The LA Galaxy have been full of announcements lately; today not only formally announcing David Beckham's return for two years, but also unveiling the new home kit for the 2012 season. Beckham said he reached his decision to return on New Years, over a glass of wine at home with Victoria. This despite the reports in the French Press that Beckham was as good as signed to Paris St. Germain.

Beckham reiterated that his family was the key factor in deciding to return. There was that temptation to leave MLS on top, but ultimately it was the challenge to do it again that won out. Combine that with kids who have spent five years integrating with Los Angeles culture, schools, and the lifestyle and the picture gets even clearer.

"After winning MLS Cup, our first thought was how do we do it again," said AEG President Tim Leiweke.

Bruce Arena, Tim Leiweke, and Beckham were all smiles at the press conference, which ended with the unveiling of the 2012 Galaxy kit. The sash is back, a shirt first designed by Nike for the Galaxy when they moved into the Home Depot Center, and which stayed on Galaxy kits until midway in the 2007 season when David Beckham was on board.

"I wanted to come back as a champion, experience that," said David Beckham.

Now with two more years of Beckham, the sash is back, and in some ways it mirrors the journey Beckham took in American soccer. He arrived and was heralded as bigger than anything in MLS. Now, five years later, he's a part of the team. Still the face, but not above the greater traditions of the team.

heh, I forgot you were pro-sash : )

Have you seen the detail? It’s got a diamond pattern that makes it looks like tire tread.

that last one is the only one I could see actually working. Making the third kit the away kit could work. We still haven’t seen the new shorts, they very well could be blue with gold tri-stripes.

too many posters on the creamer board have the notion the every team ever created should go back to their original colors. Green and Gold will never be Galaxy colors again, they just won’t, so I ignore any concepts that suggest they will.

Hopefully it will grow on me.

Not a fan of piping on sides of jerseys giving it a bib look. Nor do I like the tire track sash which a gap in it to display the kit sponsors name. However I do like the MLS Champions patch.
