apparently what we’ve got now is a cool down from hurricane, so that’s a plus

So is this just a weekend for international friendlies since Europe is off for Euro qualifiers?

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 3:08 PM PDT up reply actions

It is a FIFA International week(end)

What the confederations do with it is their choice. Next year this time CONCACAF will no doubt be using it for World Cup qualifiers. Right now we are just using it for tuneups/revenue.

weird to see Dempsey wearing 10. Landon must have given the okay

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:12 PM PDT reply actions

Altidore kind of gave up instead of playing through the tackle

Jozy’s never been known for his tough and consistant play *shrug

Tim Howard seems like a terrible teammate. He’s always screaming at people.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 3:16 PM PDT reply actions

it’s lonely all by yourself all match, makes one testy

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions

I played a little goalkeeper in high school. Never saw the need to dress down my defenders.

I know this is a common thing for goalkeepers, so I don’t really think he’s a bad teammate.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions

seeing him play for Everton is a treat, cause he has to yell and then translate

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:19 PM PDT up reply actions

Great sequence there by the US. Shea needs to hit that one

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:18 PM PDT reply actions

The USSF academy system basically forbids its teams to play a 4-4-2, unless they use a diamond like the Galaxy. And yet…

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:24 PM PDT reply actions

Don’t want to train new recruits in a system the US really wants to move away from

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:26 PM PDT up reply actions

So are they requiring everyone to use 4-3-3? A la Ajax?

by musamonster on Oct 8, 2011 3:28 PM PDT up reply actions

according to their academy rankings, 4-3-3 is the preferred formation, 4-2-1-2-1 or 4-4-2 diamond

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Rather dogmatic, eh

How many teams have won with the straight 4-4-2?

by musamonster on Oct 8, 2011 3:32 PM PDT up reply actions

it’s out of favor these days though. I feel like when teams come out in 4-4-2, the play by play folk almost start apologizing for the team

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:33 PM PDT up reply actions

Winning trumps all

But dare I say Barcelona have won with talent rather than tactics. Fabio Capello won a lot of games with it. I’m sure at some point it will come back in style.

Howard doing work. Scream at whoever you want big man.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 3:25 PM PDT reply actions

He is sort of the

defensive coach on the field, and has to be heard above all the other noise.

Brek Shea is an MVP candidate the way Ralph Nader was a presidential candidate

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:27 PM PDT reply actions

Random thought

Man City v. Aston Villa is like the Chicago Cubs v. LA Angels.

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:35 PM PDT reply actions

perhaps Williams doesn’t like scoring goals. That could explain it

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:36 PM PDT reply actions

Beavers win!

No longer have to worry about 0-11.

/end threadjack

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 3:53 PM PDT reply actions

please, how many TBLA threads have I lead to the nether-realms? Who did OSU play?

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 3:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Arizona. Beavs almost blew a 30-6 second half lead.

Ended up winning 37-27.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 3:57 PM PDT up reply actions

that’s cool. Zona is the new…..old zona actually, the role ASU was playing for awhile

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 4:08 PM PDT up reply actions

people don’t understand, when they put me on hold, I’m on a hamburger phone, and it’s awkward

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 4:09 PM PDT reply actions

That was embarrassing for Shea

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 4:17 PM PDT reply actions

How many people are at this game in Miami?

For all of “Miami Ultras” yapping about needing an MLS team, I think we had more people in Nashville for the Paraguay game.

by musamonster on Oct 8, 2011 4:18 PM PDT reply actions

going back to Miami would be a mistake. Going back to Tampa, would be a mistake. going back to San Jose was a mistake. Nashville or New Orleans should get #20

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 4:19 PM PDT up reply actions

If it isn't college football

I’m not convinced any team in Florida can draw.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions

I wanna give the Marlins credit for getting that stadium built, if you built it….maybe?

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions

I don’t know how it would work in soccer, but yeah, with the new stadium they will be drawing just fine.

They had to put in their time to get that stadium built, including threatening to move to northern new jersey.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions

I wonder if the New York area could support three teams again. They didn’t do so well last time

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 4:24 PM PDT up reply actions

The market size obviously could, it’s ten times bigger than basically every other MLB market.

But ya, I don’t know how long it would take to get people to adopt the team. You still have a ton of Rangers/Knicks fans in Northern New Jersey.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 4:26 PM PDT up reply actions

An astonishing 22 million people live in the NY metro area. Next largest is LA metro with 13 million.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 4:28 PM PDT up reply actions

An MLS team in Nashville

would be nice, but I don’t think it is ready for it. Maybe in 10 or 15 years… now the World Cup on the other hand…

by musamonster on Oct 8, 2011 4:23 PM PDT up reply actions

I really don’t understand how that’s a card. He gets the ball.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 4:22 PM PDT reply actions

kinda wish we could’ve seen Buddle tonight. Maybe Tuesday

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 4:25 PM PDT reply actions

I feel like I haven’t seen Michael Bradley in forever

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 4:29 PM PDT reply actions

Man, should have been a tap-in.

Dempsey is great.

by Michael White on Oct 8, 2011 4:30 PM PDT reply actions

I love how subjective soccer is

SoccerByIves: Danny Williams and Mo Edu coming out. Not a bad debut for Williams. He clearly can play. Young, with a bright USMNT future.
sgevans: Williams coming off for U.S – didn’t really show too much in his debut

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 4:30 PM PDT reply actions

updated the post with Dempsey’s goal, if you wanna refresh and check it out

by Josie Becker on Oct 8, 2011 4:35 PM PDT reply actions

Anything that happens at this point in the match is usually meaningless in a friendly. But I like Klinsmann seeing what some of his starters can do under duress.
